Matthew Henry wrote in the preface to his commentary that Burkitt’s Exposition “met with very good acceptance among serious people” and that it would “do great service to the church.” Henry said that Burkitt’s Exposition was the inspiration for his own commentary on the Old Testament, to complement Burkitt’s work on the New Testament.
Charles Spurgeon regarded Burkitt’s commentary as a “goodly volume,” and recommended “attentive perusal” of it.
