Frédéric Louis Godet was one of the most influential and widely-cited conservative scholars from nineteenth century Europe. Godet made lasting contributions to New Testament scholarship, especially the debate over biblical inspiration.
Difficult verses are not bypassed or given minimal treatment as is the case in some modern commentaries. Instead, Godet faces each problem squarely and suggests an explicit solution. When dealing with an interpretation problem, Godet’s shows all viewpoints and gives reasons for accepting his view. The careful reader will understand the issues involved in each passage, regardless of whether the reader agrees with Godet’s conclusion. A good student will arrive at his own interpretation of the passage.

My Tracts on Church Attendance The first and foremost reason to go to church is because God commands us to do so (Hebrews 10:23 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;) 24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: 25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.).
Coming in behind that direct command of God, we go to church in order to worship God Himself. How? Simple. We hear the Word of God actually read and carefully explained, and then we assimilate those principles y exhortations into our personal lives, and that is worship. Without those elements, there is no worship, and there is no success at "going to church." It is fruitless spiritually, and without spiritual benefit to your life, you will get discouraged and stop going, stop being committed to it, and it will ruin your life because you are a hypocrite.

We cannot identify “good preaching” if we do not understand the purpose and vocation of the preacher... The very words of God are to be explained such that the will of God is understood by repeating these words, explaining them, and insisting on them as our obligation. The lack of use of explicit (read aloud, exposit, and illustrate) Scripture makes for bad preaching...It is understood that the majority of people hearing a sermon do not want to be rebuked, but this is exactly what “good preaching” does.
